Audubon
of Kansas is...
A statewide, not-for-profit organization
established to promote appreciation and stewardship of Kansas'
natural ecosystems, with special emphasis on conservation
of prairies, birds, other wildlife and their habitat.
A
grassroots organization made up of more than 5,000
members. It is governed by a Board of Trustees consisting
of leaders from each of the Audubon chapters in Kansas and
other dedicated conservation leaders who share a common interest
in implementing Audubon's goals and mission statement.
Seeking
to implement its goals by working cooperatively with individuals
and groups representing a wide variety of interests including
landowners, businesses, communities, policy makers and other
conservation organizations.
AOK Springboard of Successes
Audubon
of Kansas was created to build on the collective legacy of
local Audubon Societies, the achievements of the Kansas Audubon
Council established in 1975, and regional Audubon initiatives.
Audubon initiatives have resulted in dedication of 100,000
acres of prairie to conservation including the Tallgrass Prairie
National Preserve, protection of water rights for Cheyenne
Bottoms wetlands, preservation of critical habitat associated
with rivers and wetlands throught the Central Flyway, vital
support for the Conservation and Wetland Reserve Programs,
and establishement of Audubon sanctuaries and nature centers.

Statement
The mission of Audubon of Kansas includes promoting
the enjoyment, understanding, protection, and restoration
of natural ecosystems. We seek to establish a culture
of conservation and an environmental ethic. |
