Audubon of Kansas is...

A statewide, not-for-profit organization established to promote appreciation and stewardship of Kansas' natural ecosystems, with special emphasis on conservation of prairies, birds, other wildlife and their habitat.

A grassroots organization made up of more than 5,000 members. It is governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of leaders from each of the Audubon chapters in Kansas and other dedicated conservation leaders who share a common interest in implementing Audubon's goals and mission statement.

S
eeking to implement its goals by working cooperatively with individuals and groups representing a wide variety of interests including landowners, businesses, communities, policy makers and other conservation organizations.

AOK Springboard of Successes

Audubon of Kansas was created to build on the collective legacy of local Audubon Societies, the achievements of the Kansas Audubon Council established in 1975, and regional Audubon initiatives. Audubon initiatives have resulted in dedication of 100,000 acres of prairie to conservation including the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, protection of water rights for Cheyenne Bottoms wetlands, preservation of critical habitat associated with rivers and wetlands throught the Central Flyway, vital support for the Conservation and Wetland Reserve Programs, and establishement of Audubon sanctuaries and nature centers.

Mission Statement
The mission of Audubon of Kansas includes promoting the enjoyment, understanding, protection, and restoration of natural ecosystems. We seek to establish a culture of conservation and an environmental ethic.
